The Procedure
SI Fusion requires a comprehensive evaluation by your doctor, involving a review of your medical history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests like X-rays or MRI scans to confirm SI joint dysfunction. If other treatments have been ineffective, SI Fusion, a minimally invasive procedure utilizing small implants to stabilize the SI joint, may be recommended. During the procedure, which typically lasts about an hour and is done on an outpatient basis, you will receive general anesthesia for comfort. A small incision near the SI joint allows for the placement of titanium implants to create a permanent fusion, followed by closure with sutures or staples, enabling you to return home the same day.
